What is the Chase 5/24 rule?

The Chase 5/24 rule is an unwritten, automated underwriting policy enforced by JPMorgan Chase. If you have opened 5 or more personal credit cards (from ANY bank, not just Chase) within the preceding 24 months, Chase will automatically deny your application for any of their proprietary credit cards (including the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Freedom Flex, and Ink Business cards)—regardless of your credit score, income, or existing deposit relationship. Authorized user cards generally count toward 5/24 initially, though you can often call Chase reconsideration line (888-270-2127) to have authorized user accounts manually excluded.
